The freestyle encounters of the 2016 Asian Wrestling Championships kicked off on Saturday morning in Bangkok, Thailand with three Iranian wrestlers finding their way to the final round of the event.
In the first round of 57kg weight category, Iran’s Younes Sarmasti powerfully subdued the Turkmen rival 11-0 by technical fall before obtaining a 13-2 victory over the Japanese freestyler.
In a tough semifinal meeting, Sarmasti had to concede an 8-10 defeat against Sandeep Tomar of India only a few seconds before the match wrapped up and will face Mongolia’s Batbold Sodnomdash in an attempt to bag the silver medal.
Iranian freestyler at 65kg Meysam Nasiri executed a 10-0 technical fall over the Thai wrestler and breezed past the Uzbek rival 12-2 in the second round.
Nasiri further overcame Batmagnai Batchuluun of Mongolia with technical fall 13-2 in the third round before defeating Japan’s Masakazu Kamoi 11-0 on route to the finals where he will meet Nurlan Bekzhanov of Kazakhstan.
Iran’s Mostafa Hosseinkhani overwhelmed Kohei Kitamura 4-3 in the first round of 74kg category before hammering the Kyrgyzstan freestyler Saiakbai Usupov 12-1.
Hosseinkhani gained a sensational 10-0 victory over Gombodorj Dorjvanchig of Mongolia in the semifinals setting up a date with the Kazakh rival Zhiger Zakirov in the final encounter.
Competing in 97kg, Iran’s outstanding freestyler Reza Yazdani executed a technical fall over Ekkapong Jannee of Thailand 10-0 and later trounced Uzbekistan’s Sukhrobjon Mukaramov 11-0.
In the semifinal, Yazdani gained a 7-0 victory over Khuderbulga Dorjkhand of Mongolia while in order to win the title he has to get the better of Kazakhstan’s Magomed Musaev in the final match.
Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestlers had previously stood at the first place of the 2016 Senior Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling Asian Championship is underway in Bangkok, Thailand on February 17-21, 2016.
